Launch of new Mortimer Country Walking Festival 2016

North Herefordshire’s Mortimer Country, is superb walking country, so local tourism group Mortimer Country Ltd has put together a series of guided walks throughout the Summer. The guided walks offer local residents and visitors a chance to explore Mortimer Country’s outstanding historical and natural environment. From a Wars of the Roses battle site walk, a Geological walk at Croft Castle and a “Walk in the Park ” at Brampton Bryan. APRIL
16th: Walk the Battle of Mortimers Cross. History and Walk 9.30 – 17.30. Famous for the sighting of Three Suns in the sky (a ‘parhelion’) this local War of the Roses Battle in February 1461 changed history for ever. Donation of £20.00 per adult Includes; guided walk, lunch (not drinks)& funds further research. Bookings: 07711 086 189.
MAY
7th: The Land Beneath Your Feet. Enjoy a guided geology walk with the Croft Castle geology champions. 10.00am Cost £5.00. To book contact: 01568 780 246.
8th: Downton Gorge National Nature Reserve. 10.00 am – 5 miles. Part of the Bishops Castle Walking Festival. Cost £3.00. BOOK NOW through Natural England, Stiperstones 01743 792 294.
8th: Walk in the Park Brampton Bryan. By kind permission of Mr and Mrs E Harley. Proceeds in aid of St Barnabas Church Brampton Bryan. Cost (including afternoon tea) £7.00 adult, child £4. Family £20 To book contact 01547 530 241.
JUNE
19th: The Northern Landscape and a little History. Part of the Herefordshire Walking Festival 10.00 – 4.45. 10 miles. Organised by the Ramblers Association. Adult £5.00, child free. Full details and bookings:  www.herefordshirewalkingfestival.org.uk.
26th June: Mortimer Forest and the Shropshire Border Part of the Herefordshire Walking Festival 10.00 – 4.00. 10 miles. Adult £5.00, child free. Full details and bookings:  www.herefordshirewalkingfestival.org.uk.
JULY
9th: Forest Walk from Adforton, led by John Voysey. In aid of The Red Cross. Refreshments afterwards (soup and fruit pie). Meet Adforton Church Car Park 6.30 pm. Adults £5.00, children free. Stout footwear.
AUGUST
14th: Magnalonga – part of the Ludlow Food Festival. A mouth-watering food and drink walk for all the family. Starting and finishing in Ludlow, a leisurely journey combining a walk through unspoilt countryside with some of the best food and drink from the Marches. OCTOBER
31st: Tales of the Supernatural kind. Adults only evening ghost walk around Croft Castle. After your walk enjoy a two course light supper in the tea-room. £28.00 per person (including supper). To book contact: 01568 780 246.
